What a Month!!!

I want to start this by saying that I am a truly blessed man. My life is amazing! God is good to me. This month my senior pastor and my boss and friend Jim Cannon began to teach and preach on 1 John...walking in the light. In my role as the Church Administrator I have seen many amazing and miraculous things...But never as I have these past few weeks. It all started with the first two weeks of the series when the sound went out. Then on the third week our entire redundant heating system went out and needed to be replaced. During this whole time I have been treated for a hernia by my doctor. Sometimes the pain in my chest was unbearable and the whole notion of sleep seemed to have left me. Last week I got into my wifes car and put it in gear and it moved to tthe top of the drive way and died. It ran but wouldn't get into gear. This caused a nice little "screaming me me" show for the kids to see...something we haven't done in quite some time. On Wednesday the heat in our house died. The heat pump was on blowing it's 57 degree air but the backup heat wouldn't come on. The repair man said that it was the sequencers and likely the whole element ($300 at least) and would take until this friday to get the part. Thursday is our normal meeting day at work and I was feeling the weight of the world. We started to pray to open our meeting and I felt God was trying to tell me something...That all of this was about Him and that he would use it to reveal his glory. Just then Jim felt that he sould pray for healing...not only of my hernia but also the car and the heat. Later after the meeting my wife and I took the kids to Ringling Bros that was in town and we were upgraded to floor seats because our area was "closed". The night was cold but we used 2 space heaters and got the temp up to nearly 65 degrees! (My house is only 1100 sqft) Friday morning was a blur. My wife got up before me as is the custom and got the kids ready for school. I Showered got in my car and hurried to work. My Wife took the kids to school and about 9:30 am we realized that she was driving the car that didn't run! With the type of heria I have eating is uncomforatble. After my breakfast and lunch I noticed that I wasn't having any pain and I was feeling 'normal' (as normal as I can be!). My wife picked the kids up and called me when she got home...shocked that...you guessed it...the heat came on! And it was getting hot in there!. I came home amazed that God would do these things and that he still hears prayer and he loves and cares for his people

Watch Your Life

In today's climate of scandal after public scandal it is easy to feel betrayed by our leaders and public officials. From loose financial practices to perverted sexual advances this proves that these people who we have put our trust in are all too human. In our 21st century of immediate gratification, we are able to indulge our desires and ourselves nearly instantly...and many times without the knowledge of the people around us. This brings me to my point. I have recently read an article by C.J. Mahoney entitled The Pastor's Priorities. I thought I'd read it in light of the recent Scandal involving Ted Haggard. C.J.'s point was that even though we may be able to see another's sin very well...we may not be able to see our own as clearly.

Today the media gives us many examples of men who are the lowest of the low in most everyone's mind...But did they begin this way? Men like Haggard and Foley and Lay were men of high stature with good reputations to boot. Men of Character...Men who people looked up to. What happened? How could men of this caliber fall into this kind of thing? Think about this...Your mind is a funny thing. I heard someone say once that “we spend too much time listening to ourselves and not enough time talking to ourselves." In short we talk ourselves into believing our own lies! All of these men at one time were NOT robbing their employees or engaging in adultery but they were listening to what their mind was telling them..."it's ok...no one will find out"..." It's only a little money and besides you are taking care of your family"...Unfortunately these men ignored the warning lights of their consciences and continued to engage in immoral activity. What can we learn from this? How do we not become these men? It’s not as easy as it seems.

1. Watch yourself. Don’t put yourself in situations where you might be tempted. If you have a tendency towards greed, don’t handle money. If your eyes wander, don’t be alone with your secretary. Keep your nose clean.

2. Know what you believe. Have some standards. Go to church. Keep others in mind before you make decisions that will affect them. Think about your family…Think about what you’re about to do.

3. Ask your friends and your family what your character flaws are. Do something about them. Be nice.

And Finally….If none of this has prevented you from your immoral act…and you get caught…

TELL THE TRUTH!!!!

Don’t lie.

Most people aren’t idiots.

You’ll feel better and it gives others a chance to forgive you.
